II: GEOGRAPHY

  • Population (2006 Estimate):  149,325
  • Land Mass: approximately 816 km²
  • Boundaries: Ika South, Oshimili, Ethiope West Ukwuani, Isoko and Ndokwa East LGAs
  • Vegetation: Has evergreen rain forest but 70% deciduous trees
  • Rainfall: 6’ of rainfall per annum; 6 months of rainfall and 6 months dry season and spells of harmattan (between late November and early January)
  • Terrain: Upland region, plain lowland with very few hills associated with rivers that drain the region, with erosion challenges, especially along valleys in the coastal areas.
  • Drainage: Drained by River Ase, Adofi, Okumeshi River, a seasonal river.
